Wylik Coleman hit a go-ahead layup in the final minutes to propel Cayuga Community College men鈥檚 basketball to an 83-80 win over Jefferson Community College on Wednesday at home.
After taking a 38-34 lead into the locker room, the Cannoneers responded in the second half by taking a 79-76 advantage with under three minutes left in the game. However, the Spartans bounced back in the final minutes with Coleman鈥檚 layup and made free throws from Christian Gomez and Solomon Mitchell.
Coleman finished with 19 points, while Tony Borges recorded a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds. Amaree Samuel ended with 12 points, six rebounds, one steal and one block.
Gomez had 11 points, seven assists and a pair of steals, while Mitchell concluded with 7 points and eight rebounds. Rian Hall, Jorge Jimenez and Gerod Jackson each scored 5 points apiece.聽

Jefferson Community College 66, Cayuga Community College 45: The Spartans were unable to overcome a 9-point deficit at halftime on Wednesday in their loss at home. Despite the loss to the No. 11-ranked Cannoneers, head coach Jim Alberici liked how Cayuga countered their pressure. 鈥淚鈥檓 really proud of our effort against a team that made it to nationals last year," he said in a news release. "We came up with a plan to handle their zone press, and we did a nice job executing that. I鈥檓 hoping we can build on that and be ready for our game Saturday.鈥 Avery Mosch led the Spartans with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Xavia Evener finished with 9 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.聽Lexi Alberici concluded with 13 points, five assists and a pair of steals. Sierra Murray ended with nine rebounds and 4 points.聽
