UNION SPRINGS — A local planning committee has finalized the list of projects it will submit to the state for the $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative award won by the villages of Aurora, Cayuga and Union Springs.Ìý
The committee, which held its final meeting Monday at Union Springs Fire Hall, narrowed its list to 17 proposed projects. The projects include improvements to public parks in Cayuga and Union Springs, and the creation of a waterfront park in Aurora.Ìý
Fourteen private projects made the final cut. The largest of the projects supported by the committee is Beacon Bay Marina's proposal to add lodging and redevelop its property in Cayuga. The project will cost $5.7 million, with $2.5 million requested from the DRI award.Ìý

Other projects that received the committee's endorsement include plans for a new 4,000-square-foot mixed-use building at 143 Cayuga St. in Union Springs. The developer is seeking $1.4 million in DRI funding for the $2.2 million project. There is also a proposal in Cayuga for a new event center on Lake Street. The project will cost $2 million, with $1.3 million sought from the DRI.Ìý
Aurora's DRI plans have been altered by the closure of Wells College, but one of the projects supported by the committee would upgrade the Community Medical Center. The project would include renovating 1,000 square feet of space for physicians, a new accessible restroom, new doors and windows.Ìý
The Community Medical Center is on the Wells College campus. The college recently announced it has hired a firm to sell the campus, which could affect the medical center's future plans. But the committee decided to include the project on its final list.Ìý
The committee unanimously voted to approve the final project list that will be sent to the state for review. The list includes projects seeking $14.66 million in DRI funding.Ìý
Cayuga Mayor Don Wilson, who co-chaired the committee, told members Monday that he's pleased with the DRI submission.Ìý
"It's a fair slate across the board," he said.Ìý
The state will have the final say on which projects will be supported by the $10 million DRI award. The list of projects receiving DRI funding will be released in early 2025.Ìý
